TITLE
Glyco-Bioinformatics: Bitter-Sweet Symphony by Sugar Code

Abstract
Glycans, also known as carbohydrates, saccharides, or simply as sugars, play central roles in many biological processes and have useful properties in a variety of applications from biomarker discovery to therapeutics. However, glycans have received little attention from the research community due, in large part, to a lack of tools to probe their often complex structures and properties. Recently, advances in glycomic and glycoproteomic methods along with the development of technology in mass spectrometry allow us to better understand the role of the glycome in biological processes in areas as broad as infection, autoimmunity, and cancer. The challenges are no longer scientific but technical. In particular, glyco-informatics and database that automate interpretation of glycome data are key to a wider implementation of glycoscience.
